The adoptee advocacy and support organization China’s Children International (CCI) has announced that it is preparing the first edition of a Chinese birth parent search manual. Jenna Cook, who was profiled in the film Somewhere Between and who has written about her as-yet inconclusive birth parent search, and Laney Allison, CCI Co-founder and President, are working to create a “comprehensive, free, and accessible guide” for Chinese adoptees who would like to search for their birth families. In addition to practical information, the guide will address the emotional aspect of searching—how to know whether you’re ready, what if you search but don’t find answers? Cook and Allison hope to release the Birth Parent Search Manual by December 31, 2016, and plan to update it each year.
